About Artist:

Andrea Ng is a visual artist and pianist born and raised in Downtown Toronto.  A self taught artist nurtured by private art tutors around the Toronto area, Andrea enjoyed a passion for painting since childhood, where pencil drawing created her first window into the visual arts. Private lessons in Charcoal, Oil, Pastel and Acrylic, furthered her ability to self express. As well, she had learned and enjoyed creative arts through Wood/Lino-cut print making techniques and Felt crafting. After leaving the art scene to complete her studies in the Sciences (Chemistry), as well as English Literature and Gender studies, Andrea returned to expression through the visual arts in 2011 and works in acrylic paintings, crafting in felt, and wood cuts.

Artist Statement:

“I use acrylic medium and paint in the abstract realism style, using the canvas as a pictorial space to express my obsessions with the different psychological states of the mind; particularly those of the diminished consciousness that often drifts between dream and reality, to tell a story from within those deep and often dark places. I find a delicate, soft, and beautiful existence in the solitary shadows that are hidden in our worlds. Whether they are secrets that are hidden, forgotten, or abandoned, I express these silent tableaus from the mind and elsewhere in my work. Hopefully they will touch another soul who views my artwork and take them to a place where they may have gone through sentiments of sorrow, hope, loneliness, euphoria, silence, serenity, chaos or darkness.”_Andrea Ng

About Artwork:

This monochrome piece is illustrating the loneliness of certain times and places we have been in. Sometimes pillars of security and familiarity may hold deeper and perhaps darker meaning. For some, leaving hardships is not an option, yet there is still hope, such as the wind and the blue flowers growing from among the cobblestones represented in this piece.
