About Artist:

Anthony Christian (b. 1945) was already making a name for himself by the tender age of ten as the only child in history to be granted permission to study by copying masterpieces in London's National Gallery. His first major oil painting was a full-size, 6 by 4.5 feet, copy of Dutch master Philips Wouwermann's Cavalry Battle. The work provoked much media interest and coverage and the art world pronounced him a child prodigy.

The artist, today 73 years of age, has enjoyed an illustrious and unprecedented career as an artist. His art has taken him to America, France, Nepal, Italy, Morocco, Asia and India, as well as many other countries where he associated with artists such as Dali, Picasso and Warhol, and where he painted (often portraits) for the rich and famous: from the late Lord Mountbatten and Peter Cazelet (in the Queen's Royal Collection) to actors Terence Stamp and Donald Sutherland.

Faced with the choice of further fame as a society portraitist or searching out a greater, more profound artistic truth, Christian left England to live in Bali and South India where he set up a museum to display his life's work. Based in Asia, he was able to quickly gain a wider clientele of collectors and a worldwide reputation for his Old Master technique.

He has a passion for Erotic Art and has written and spoken extensively on the subject. He says his aim is to create works so beautiful they transcend any prejudice towards the subject.

Collectors of his erotic work include Hugh Hefner, Victor Lownes (Vice President of Playboy), Ian Russell 13th Duke of Bedford, Suzanne Beauclerk Duchess of St Albans and Fritz Gunter Sachs who bought a piece for his then wife Brigitte Bardot.

"Painting is closely akin to making love. Masterpieces come from intense stimulation; a limp brush won't get you very far."

Vogue's affirmation several decades ago: Anthony Christian is a new world's child who makes old world portraits, remains equally true almost half a century on.

This painting is an oil sketch created by Anthony Christian in 2016. The Yew Walk at Gormanston College in Dublin Ireland is one of Christian's favourite places to paint. The artist couple lived a few minutes away for 6 years and during that time Christian created many paintings there. Image 2 above is a photo of Anthony's easel set up at the location. The college has a fantastic history and a beautiful story attached to this Yew Walk. The actor Colin Farrell is amongst notable people who attended the college.

A castle on these grounds dates back to 1372, but the present castle was built in 1786 by Sir Jenico Preston, 12th Viscount Gormanstown. This family lived here for many centuries and a legend has it that each time a head of the family was dying, foxes collect at the door of the castle because the original Viscount protected the fox on his land. There is a very large Elm Tree which is said to be over 400 years old and a large bell in the court yard. In front of the castle we find the yew walk, a foliage enclosed area in the form of a cloister that dates back some hundreds of years and there is another interesting story which recounts that the Lord of the Castle had this cloister formed from yew trees for his daughter who wished to enter a convent and he wanted her to stay at home.

The price includes  the frame which is made from wood authorized by The Forest Stewardship Council. Shipping worldwide is also included.

“Art, I feel, is a journey; it is a voyage through the artist’s consciousness to an understanding of his vision which inspired him. Art is the sea, in which every single work is an island that invites you to rest awhile, to feast your senses and find joys for your Soul. If I have created anything like that for you, then indeed the existence of my art is justified.”
