About Artist:
Kobina Nyarko is one of Ghana's premier young contemporary artists. Born in Takoradi, Ghana, much of Mr. Nyarko's recent work explores the symbolism of fish in paintings that feature numerous tiny fish on often large-scale canvases. This "trademark" theme makes his work easy to recognize. The swirling, mesmerizing schools of fish captivate all of Mr. Nyarko's viewers and collectors. Mr. Nyarko formal training came as a student at the College of Art at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology where he received a BA in Industrial Art Degree (Metals). Since 1998, Mr Nyarko’s fish paintings have embraced numerous styles from abstraction to expressionism and impressionism.
Kobina’s paintings are now known all over the world. In Ghana, they can be found in private home and public places, like the Canadian and the Danish High Commission and also the American, Russian and South African Embassies in Ghana. They have been exhibited in the San Diego Museum of Man in California, in London, Brussels, Denmark, Germany and Barcelona. Mr. Nyarko’s work is considered to be illustrative of 3rd generation Ghanaian artists, who freely express themselves as artists in a modern world, without succumbing to restrictive notions of African art.
