About Artist:

Known for his revival of the Florentine mosaic technique of intarsia, Richard Blow's work relates to his experience in Italy, depicting classical motifs, and themes such as landscapes, figures, butterflies, and many others, both indicative of the chronological origins of this craft, and also his inclination and stiking mastery of modernist and surrealist themes. Approximately 1500 works were produced at his atelier in Montici, Italy from the 1940's to the 1970's. Lived from 1904 - 1983.

Richard Blow

Untitled

  • 1950-1960
  • 19 x 23 inches
  • Fine Art Category: paintings
  • Medium: Pietra Dura, Intarsia, Stone Inlay, Mosaic
  • Origin: Italy
  • Signed: Signed lower left
  • Comments:

Given the unique theme, vision, size, and flawless technique, this is one of very few Monticis by Richard Blow that could be considered both museum quality and investment grade. The condition of the panel is excellent, with no flaws noted, the frame with normal wear commensurate with its age and use. Please refer to the photos, they are an important part of the description, and illustrate any condition issues not otherwise noted.

    It measures 23.0 x 19.0 inches framed, and 15.75 x 12.0 inches by sight.

The work appears to be based in Greek mythology, most likely the attempted abduction of Hippodamia by the centaurs.
