About Artist:
Julie Ribault (1789-1851) painted portraits and genre pictures and presented works at the Paris Salon between 1810 and 1826. She was a part of the Bourbon Restoration. At that time, young artists were paid to study and paint at the Louvre. Many of these artists also painted for the nobility.
Julie Ribault won a second place medal at the 1824 Paris Exhibition held at the Louvre. The gold medal was ordered for her by King Louis XVIII however it was presented by his brother, King Charles X. This event was recorded by Francis-Joseph Heim in his painting titled " Charles X Distributing Awards to the Artistes Exhibiting at the Salon of 1824 in the Louvre," dated 15 January 1825. The king is shown awarding the ribbon of St. Michael to the sculptor, Cartillier. Mille Ribault is depicted center right in the portrait with her gold medal draped around her neck.
