When I started this piece it was to become modern art. Clean, crisp, simple. The initial shapes changed my vision completely. I felt the movement in the form as it spoke to me. A perfect creation growing in a harsh environment. Always pushing forward, leaning against the pressure that it can only fight but never prevail over. Everything is formed by hand and hammer. I too have been shaped by making this piece. The trunk is twisted and deformed. The leaves of copper have lost their luster. Every change furthers the patina. The tree is worn and tired but it is still strong and beautiful. A wonderful and relatable balance that represents us all.
