About Artist:

Most of my life I was a professional helicopter pilot in the Army.  The past three years I have been putting myself through school and am applying to dental programs across Texas.  I have been making things all my life, and am particularly interested in the beauty and function of animals of all kinds.  Future art projects are slated to include human sized DNA chains, bronze sculptures of animals, bacteria, and plants, and entirely fictional abstract pieces.  I also would be more than happy to commission work privately for clients.

About Artwork:

The tailpiece was inspired by trophypieces that I have seen throughout my life.  A friend of mine has a killer whale vertabrae on her wall that she carved out of a decaying whale carcass, and it always held a certain amount of power and strength.  I wanted to convey that through this piece.  It is made out of texas juniper that was cautiously flamed with an acetylene torch, hand-rubbed with oil, and then polyurethaned, and set in steel strapping.  Set off of a white wall, with the right light, it is pretty striking.

First really fantastic piece of art that I have made.  I took a sculpture class this fall, and this is one of solid pieces that came out of the process.  Based on input from an art gallery it was shown in, I am assigning the price in the 1200 dollar range because it is 'flawed' in some ways, otherwise it would probably fetch something more like $2500+ in the right market.  The polyurethane on the back of the sculpture seems permanently 'tacky'- and probably needs a re-finish, ultimately.  I would like to ship it only to places in the United States, although some locations in Europe would be suitable also, providing additional shipping was paid for by client.
