About Artist:
Tbagious took on his artists name after moving to Bali. It was the nickname one of his oldest friends in Bali gave him. Bagus in Bahasa Indonesia has several meanings including nice, good and cool. He liked the nickname, pronounced Tea Bagous and likened to a chilled afternoon tea with a twist of red pepper, and it stuck.
Born in 1981 in the land of beer, chocolate and French fries -Belgium. the artist was always drawn to the world of surfboard riding, From his first Powell Peralta skateboard to his first Burton snowboard, this counter culture has always served as a overwhelming influence in his life, and now in his art. Several of the works he has exhibited reflect his interest in the fluo and edgy skate culture of the 1980s.
At the age of 22 Bagous started his artistic career painting on surfboards, viewing them as large white spaces that presented a screen to be brought to life. From surfboards, viewing them as large white spaces that presented a screen to be brought to life. From surfboards he then moved to articles of clothing including leather jackets, jeans and snowboard coats as a way to further his self expression. He then moved to painting on canvases.
BALIFORNIA comes from a major life change he made five and a half years ago, having always been a wanderer in search of new adventures, he found after ten years of a successful career in the corporate technology world it was time to make a change. He quit his job, rented his loft, sold what wasn't necessary and packed his bags to find adventure. The surf was waiting for him and the next adventure was on the horizon.
T-BAGOUS is an autodidact and never thought of his art as having a specific style. He likens his work to street art but with a fresh and joyful approach to creating. Some of his friends and observers think his art is in the naïve ouvre. He summarises his style as "naïve story telling with a dash of fluo and yeah! eat your fruit!!"
