About Artist:
I am largely self taught. Over the years I've taken the occasional figure drawing and still life drawing at the Corcoran School of Arts and Design - Continuing Education Division. About a decade ago, I decided to commit to making art and began to take classes at The Art League School at The Torpedo Factory in Old Town, Alexandria, VA. At The Art League, I've studied with many inspiring teachers including Marsha Staiger, Bev Ryan, Lisa Semarad and, most recently, Delna Dastur.
After spending 40 years in the greater Washington, DC area (most of my adult life) in May 2020 I relocated to Durham, NC where I now live and work.
About Artwork:
I have a photograph from an old magazine (probably circa early 1950s) that I use frequently in my work. The photo is of a post-WWII suburban development - a Levitttown - the "American Dream." It may evoke in the viewer a feeling of nostalgia - a longing for a different, better time. That is only part of what I hope to create - a feeling of nostalgia, yes, but the faded, surreal, dreamlike images remind me that this "better time" never actually existed.
