About Artist:
Donald Stuart Leslie Friend was a famous Australian artist who painted mostly as an illustrator, and graphic artist.
He was born in Sydney, NSW in 1915 and studied at the Royal Art School.
In 1936 he studied at the Westminster School of Art in London.
His works were also exhibited later in Australia at the Macquarie Galleries and with the Society of Artists in Sydney.
He served as an Australian soldier in WW2 and after receiving a commission as a lieutenant, became a war artist.
He spent a great deal of his life overseas, with many admired works created whilst living in Bali in the late 1960’s.
Wind Squall reflects the flowing and decorative aspects of his graphic artistry.
