About Artist:
Edward Thomas Adams, a/k/a Eddie Adams was born in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, USA in 1933 - died in NY in 2004. He knew from a young age that he wanted to be a photographer and in HS started to shot pictures. He worked for various newspapers and then for the AP at the time the photograph was taken - 1968. In 1969 he won the Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Photography. This image was a defining moment for him. He later worked for Time Magazine, Parade Magazine and had his own company. He covered many wars but also took many pictures of world events and world leaders, as well as celebrities.
Back in the 70s our family was searching for a country home in upstate NY for a getaway on weekends but also as a venue for a workshop for young photograhers. In the mid 70s our family purchased 60+acres with an old house, huge barn and pond in Jeffersonville, NY - After years of renovation and preparation The Eddie Adams Workshop for photographers began - Sandy Colton, one of Eddie's bosses at the AP said this about the workshop -
"...many people do not know why this workshop, which is free for 100 young photojournalists, came to be. Many of the country's greatest photographers, editors and publishers have volunteered their time gratis as speakers and instructors. Many major corporations have donated personnel and materials. Why? Eddie said he wanted to "pay back" for his success and help those on the way up. Incidentally, I believe at least three Pulitzer Prize winners are among the graduates of the workshop"
