About Artist:
Two years ago we moved from the prairie to the Pacific Northwest; and from a cozy Victorian with dormers to an efficient condo with windows eight feet tall. We used to walk under oaks, gazing at fields of grain. Now we walk under firs, gazing at water and mountains.
About Artwork:
Most of my diptychs begin with photos taken out of doors: in a grove, at a beach, on a bridge, in a park. This one begins indoors, looking out in twenty directions from a spot in our hallway. The twenty triangles on the left are then flipped horizontally to form a template for the set on the right. These look in, seeking visual responses to the first group -- formal, thematic, and emotive.
All of the right-side details were taken from Rogier van der Weyden's St. Luke Drawing the Virgin, an oil painting on panel, c. 1440.
