About Artist:

Adelaide artist, Heather Warne, designed and created this stunning work.

About Artwork:

The Serpent is one of the oldest and most widespread symbols in religious traditions, mythology and literature.

Serpents and snakes represent the creative life force, and the shedding of their skin symbolizes rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing.

The Rainbow Snake is a major mythological being for Aboriginal people across Australia; the associated creation myth is best known from northern Australia.

Serpents are represented as potent guardians of temples and other sacred spaces, and are connected with poison and medicine. The snake's venom is associated with the power to heal, poison or provide expanded consciousness through divine intoxication. The snake is often considered one of the wisest animals, due to its association with the Divine, and is often considered to be connected to the afterlife and immortality.

Asclepius, the God of medicine and healing, carried a staff around which a serpent was wrapped. This became the symbol of modern medicine.
