Congo Funeral Home-North Chapel?Obituary
Larry D. Unthank, age 60, departed this life on June 6, 2012, at home. Larry graduated from Wilmington High School in 1970 and attended Delaware State College where he was a member of the marching band. Larry was a lifetime musician who played various instruments including drums, tuba, and most notably the saxophone. He studied and was mentored by Robert "Boysie" Lowery for more than a decade. Larry was well known as a jazz musician; however, he viewed himself as an entertainer, embracing all genres of music. He played with several local groups and in the mid '90s founded his own band the Larry Unthank Group. At a recent tribute, Larry was revered for his extraordinary enthusiasm and zeal for performing. Larry also gave saxophone lessons to several young people in the Wilmington area. Music was Larry's first love; his second love was baseball. An avid fan of the game, he played for over a decade on the Tri-State 48+/55+ Men's Senior Baseball League. This was his favorite pastime, and he was selected the 2010 Most Valuable Player for his team the Delaware Diamondbacks where he played outfield and first base. In addition to music and baseball, Larry wrote children's books and was a talented visual artist. He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother Frances Unthank of Wilmington, Delaware; two daughters, Nicole Harris of Shaker Heights, Ohio and Kelley Everett (Willie)of Collingdale, Pennsylvania; and one son, Andrew Unthank; one brother, Mark Unthank (Michele)of Manhattan, New York; two sisters, Denise Kinnebrew (Chuck) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Robyn Unthank of Wilmington, Delaware; and his loving companion, Sheila Smith of Wilmington, Delaware. Larry also leaves to cherish his memory, three grandchildren, Devon Brown, Simone and Elijah Everett; one niece, Jocelyne Unthank; and five nephews, Robert, Omar and Vandrick Kinnebrew, and Ethan and Christian Unthank. Funeral Service will be 11 am Friday, June 15th at Congo Funeral Home, 2317 N. Market Street, Wilmington, Delaware 19802 where viewing will be from 9:00-10:45 am only. His burial will be private. To honor Larry's memory, contributions may be made to The Pilot School, 100 Garden of Eden Road, Wilmington, Delaware 19803.

Execellent piece of work by Larry Unthank. Roots the 1977 epic rendition of the slave experience in the USA starring LeVar Burton. The Painting depicts LeVar in chains as he glares into the eyes of his captors. The white in his eyes causes pause for anyone who comes into contact with this master piece!
?
The painting was framed in 1990 and is in mint condition. The picture frame was done by the late Mo, Maurice a local Master framer. Like Mo, the artist, composer and musician the Late Larry Unthank left this jewel in my families hand.

The historical composition in his work is worth preservation and passing on for history sake. The price tag does this art no justice it's priceless. This painting can be sent anywhere it has a universal affect and people anywhere can appreciate it?
