About Artist:
I think of my paintings as mindscapes, pulling into their tardis-like expanse studies and thoughts of the natural and manmade world. The heavily built up paint against exposed surface of the canvas and the tangle of line and colour, are figurative and corporeal at heart. I explore the body as mind – a notion of consciousness being tied to flesh by strings of sensual experience. For me, the desire toward figurative painting is a powerful compulsion, swelling from an historic lineage greater than any individual; yet the resulting work has to it a quality of human fragility. My paintings are not are not ‘loud’ but ask for both ‘time’ and ‘space’ from the observer so that the source of their inspiration may be understood. I studied fine art at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff. I have gone on to exhibit widely across the UK including in the National Portrait Gallery, London, the Royal Academy of Art and the Laing Gallery. My work has been included in publications by the National Portrait Gallery amongst others and resides in collections in Europe, Canada and Hong Kong as well as the UK. This year so far I have exhibited National Portrait Gallery Gala, The Art Gemini Prize in London and in La linerie in France. From the autumn I will be part of a touring exhibition of British artists around China.
