About Artist:
Robert Magee, born in Philadelphia USA 1943, atended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, a course base on the French Beaux Arts program and graduated to individual work and crits, continuing to the University of Pennsylvania graduate school where he consulted Elaine de Kooning, Alex Katz, Clement Greenburgh, Lavvy Poons among others.
He works in the continuum between the “abstract” and the “naturalistic” in painting and drawing. He looks for color harmonies or discords depending on his intention. He looks at the work as if gazing through a window and if nascent images appear, he develops this direction. Figurative content is and remains suggested and no illustration is employed.
About Artwork:
I love nature and live on a bird sanctuary combined with my love of gesture as in ancient Chinese art. Also gestural painting in New York influenced me greatly through my association with Elaine de Kooning in Graduate School at the University of Pennsylvania. Further more I live in a section of Los Angeles where I can see the local Southwest Museum of American Indian Art in this neighborhood where Jackson Pollack grew up and found his inspiration from american indians who painted with sand on the ground.
