About Artist:
Roberto Matta, Chilean (1911-2002) studied with Le Corbusier in Paris, joined the Surrealist movement in 1937, after meeting Salvador Dali and Andre Breton and soon became a leading figure with his signature biomorphic mutations?. He has been honored with a number of major surveys of his work including shows at the Museum of Modern Art, New York (1955), and in Stockholm (1958), Bologna (1963), Mexico City (1964), Berlin (1970), Paris (1971), London (1977) and Tokyo (1986). His most recent retrospective, 'Matta in America,' debuted in 2001 at Los Angeles's Museum of Contemporary Art, and traveled to the Miami Art Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago in 2002.
