About Artist:
Russell Blackwell is an American welder/fabricator who has trained and been certified in a wide variety of types of welding, and he has worked internationally. Raised in South Carolina, where his father had a welding shop, he helped his family on their farm until a few years after he graduated from high school. While working out west in construction (1981/1999), he experienced an epiphany in 1997 on a mountain top in Wyoming. Russell decided to relegate his commercial welding to a supporting role as he aspired to become an artist. He returned home in 2000, where he opened a private welding shop with a small gallery.
Since childhood, he had a gift for art, and it has always been a motivating force. After creating a significant collection of works, Russell Blackwell is ready to make his art available to serious collectors.
About Artwork:
A New Beginning is a symbolic work that can be interpreted many ways. From the artist's perspective, one hand emerges from a living oak tree and firmly grips the other hand that morphs into a fashioned piece of lumber with nails. Together they represent strength and longevity and serve as a reminder that, though all living things die, some can be resurrected for a noble human purpose.
