About Artwork:
I?ve had a diverse career so far but the move to the Jurassic Coast and a visit to Utah and Arizona has emphasized my passion for rock formations and what happens between the land and the sea. Palm tree and plant negative shapes coupled with the inate qualities of paint has been a passion for some time. I use watercolour and gouache as I find the textures I can achieve with them the most satisfying ? the textures from transparent to opaque add another dimension of mystery and drama - and wonderful Kahdi cotton rag paper ? working with water has all sorts of advantages. I always work to a white/negative background as it is the object itself that I am interested in ? I want to get away from the inevitable rectangle and to emphasis the natural shapes of the object. I find that adding backgrounds reduces the effectiveness of the image ? it becomes a scene rather than an image. Best wishes
