About Artwork:
Background
Donald Trump's candidacy and presidency have alarmed a wide spectrum of people around the world concerned about the erosion of civil rights and protections for minorities. His inclusion of alt-right supporters in his administration has emboldened white nationalism, xenophobia and other forms of prejudice.
Inspiration
The sculpture is inspired by David Cronenberg's 1979 classic depiction of family horror The Brood.
Psychotherapist Hal Raglan runs the Somafree Institute where he performs a technique called "psychoplasmics", encouraging patients with mental disturbances to let go of their suppressed emotions through physiological changes to their bodies.
One patient is Nola Carveth. Her rage about her abuse is so strong that she parthenogenetically bears a brood of children who psychically respond and act on the targets of her rage.
His Brood
The sculpture depicts Trump as a representative of the fear-mongering, hatred and ridicule of those who are different. By providing a platform and tacit support for those who espouse bigoted views, his brood act on the target of their rage by attacking minorities and the vulnerable.
Parents will feel more comfortable expressing these views and sharing them with their children. As a result, a new generation of intolerance is created. Rather than the white snow suits of the movie, the Klan robes the children wear do not fit now, but with repeated exposure to prejudice they will grow into them.
