About Artist:
Terri Kelleher is an artist and award winning illustrator of children's books. In 2014 she recieved the Kuykendall Image Award for her work in Nancy Scalabroni's book, "CougaMongaMingaMan."
She has exhibited her art locally in solo and group shows, and her work has been collected by art lovers all over the world, from Singapore to LA, and many places in between.
About Artwork:
This artwork is from a new series of 2016 called Ancient Faces. This series looks at historical civilizations around the world and takes inspiration from their art, historical artefacts, and cultures. This particular piece is based on the art/culture of the Rapa Nui people of Easter Island.
The two bird-like characters were inspired by carvings found on a prominent stone on the island. The central face takes inspriation from an ancient, carved, wooden mask discovered there. The faces at the bottom are representational of the iconic stone heads for which the island is famous.
