About Artist:

Tomasz Kopcewicz, born in Kamien Pomorski in 1974, is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk. He received his diploma in 2002 from the Painting Studio of Professor Wlodzimierz Lajming and the Intermedia Studio of Professor Witoslaw Czerwonka.

Since 2002, he has been a resident of the Gdansk Artists’ Colony in the former shipyard areas, where he co-founded the artistic group “Znajomi Znad Morza” (Friends from the Seaside). He works in painting and video art. His practice focuses on images situated between representation and abstraction, with a strong emphasis on geometry.

In 2015, together with photographer Michal Szlaga, he formed the artistic duo “Odyseja.” Between 2018 and 2022, he pursued doctoral studies at the Interfaculty Doctoral Studies program at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk. He defended his doctoral dissertation under the supervision of Professor Krzysztof Polkowski with distinction in 2022.

From 2020 to 2023, he worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Fine Arts at the Koszalin University of Technology. He currently teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk in the diploma painting studio of Professor Krzysztof Polkowski.

His work has been discussed by, among others, Bozena Czubak, Daniel Muzyczuk, Stach Szablowski, Marta Wróblewska, as well as Agata Rogos, Patrycja Rylko, Jolanta Bobala, and Jagna Domzalska.
