About Artist:
"The creations of Viktor Tinkl incorporate sculpture, architecture and painting and show a deep affinity with Ready-Mades, Art Brut and Outsider Art. His fantastic sculptures, made from recycled material, go beyond pure whimsy and are close examinations of contemporary society." (Viktor Tinkl:Making Things. Book by Linda Jansma, Robert Freeman, and Viktor Tinkl.)
--- --- ---
Viktor Tinkl is an Ontario-based multi-disciplinary artist who has created a variety of artworks over the decades including sculptural works and mixed media drawings. Over the years, he has become well-known for his sculptural works created from concrete. He is a self-described ‘amateur architect.’ This is an apt description as his creations incorporate sculpture, architecture, and painting.
His art practice has been focused on his personal art practice and not one built around retail sales. The artist has never been formally represented by a commercial gallery. Tinkl though regularly exhibits works in public galleries throughout Canada including at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the University of Toronto Art Centre, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, and the Bronfman Centre of Montreal. His works can be found in the Canada Council Art Bank, Imperial Oil Bronfman Collection, and numerous private collections.
His wife Judith is an accomplished textile artist and his son Nicholas is well known for his photography. The family’s homestead, an old schoolhouse, has been transformed over the years into what one art critic described as “a fantastical array of whimsical sculptures.”
