About Artist:

                                                                                                                                                                    Wilton Alford Treadway Bio

                                                                                                                                                          (1956-   )

Born Jan 5 1956 in Little Rock Ar, United States. Treadway was entirely self taught, at the age of 7 he started painting and by the age of 14 was painting signs and selling oil paintings. He continued to paint signs as a pictoral artist for 20 yrs for 3M, painting pictures on billboards in shops and on location. Treadway also painted for other national companies, Donrey Media, WhiteCo, and many other companies across the United States. He was highly sought after for his pictoral work, and he called these billboards his family of murals. He was called the Picasso of Billboard Artists by his peers. He painted fast in an impressionistic style like Monet but with the fury of Picasso. He has been known to change up the artwork the advertising agencies gave him if it didn’t look right to him, making it a better Pictorial, with no complaints. Painting pictorals on billboards from East Coast to West Coast and Canada to Mexico, gave him many subjects to paint plein air from the country side. In 1990 he retired from pictoral work painting on billboards and started making pottery from 1990 to 2000 he created over 10,000 hand thrown and sculpted pieces of pottery. Treadway has created over 3000 paintings, and 7000 serigraphs which were all hand cut on silk screens. In 2000 Treadway exhibited a series called Treadway’s Blue Nudes, a sensual series of paintings in the style of Photo Realism. You can still see most of the series that have been sold, online listed as (Treadway’s Blue Nudes)! Treadway’s works have been collected world wide, he has painted in many styles through the years. He mostly paints in oils, his styles now are mainly impressionism and cubism. He is said to be one of the most prolific artists in the 20th and 21st Century with only Picasso having created more works of art. He has added a lithograph press to his work recently, and is experimenting with a new but old medium!. He is writing a soon to be released biography of his life as an artist. He paints in his different studios in New Mexico, Colorado, and Arkansas, and Plein Air paints all over the country depending on where the muse takes him!

The world is my Canvas and Life is my Subject! I have studied the paintings of the old masters, and learned  from them all, as other well known Artists that have copied the old masters works before them. I do not copy but let the souls of the Old Masters show me how to paint in my own way with my own soul being painted on each canvas by each brush stroke. I have found with age that I have become more simplistic as a child, but more complex! And the muse keeps showing me the way!
