About Artist:
I am a Netherlands national living in the Philippines. After a brief seamans career, which I had to terminate because of family reasons, I studied graphic art in Amsterdam. This brought me to a career as industrial photography. During these years I lived in France, Italy and the U.K. and I travelled to many counries in the world. After I retired my wife and I decided to settle in the Philippines, not far from Manila. I love to make drawings of cityscapes and landscapes. Also maritime objects, such as port scenes and ships are my favoured objects. As I was born in Amsterdam and lived during my youth along one of the canals in a stately double house not to far from the port many of the objects I choose have water, trees and vintage houses as object. The Flemish painter Pieter Brueghel and the Dutch master van Ruysdael are my favorite artist and I try to follow their as an example.
About Artwork:
I found in a magazine an old black and white photograph of one of the many canals in the Belgian city of Bruges. The photo must have been taken at the end of the 1800's and I found it quit a chalange to depict it with the right colors. In the back ground can be seen the tall belfry tower of Bruges. The canal shown is the Groene Rei (Green Canal). As I lived during my youth along one of Amsterdam's canals I could not resist the urge to create a large drawing showing the beauty of that lovely spot in Bruges.

This drawing which I finished recently depicts one of Brugge's many canals. It is of course in a new condition and is done on high quality art paper.
