Edwin IJpeij

About Artist:
Edwin (b. 1969) is a contemporary Dutch artist and inventor based near Maastricht. Through his paintings and photographs, Edwin tells stories of erotic, sensual, and seductive beauty, portraying his muses as powerful, alluring figures.
His nudes are stripped of garments and makeup, celebrating the pure essence of the human form. Edwin's artworks encourage viewers, to embrace their own natural beauty and become their authentic selves.
Edwin's works are diverse, yet always maintain a spicy and sensual quality. His theatrical scenes showcase his muses' power, seduction, and temptation, creating a narrative that draws the viewer in.
As a master of both painting and photography, Edwin expertly composes his artworks, accentuating the female form and emphasizing the texture and color of the skin with high-contrast and dramatic lighting. He believes that every woman has the innate ability to be seductive and powerful, while maintaining elegance, grace, and control.
Edwin prefers to paint with tempera and oil using Old Masters' techniques, which he believes best capture the realistic texture and color of the skin. He creates his own paints using genuine pigments, utilizing his BSc in chemistry to ensure quality.
Edwin's works have been exhibited in various cities around the world, including Maastricht, Miami, Barcelona, London, Venice, Knokke, and Amsterdam, and are part of private collections in Maastricht, Aix-en-Provence, Oxford, London, Genk, and Sittard-Geleen. He is represented by the Espace Art gallery in Brussels and Galerie ArtPéro in Namur (B).
About Artwork:
This work is part of the Sensual in the City project. This photo is taken downtown Maastricht (NL) in its gorgeous historical city centre. Edwin's goal is to bring the power and the strenght of the woman into the spotlights. The project had been extensively in the news, see https://edwinijpeij.nl/in-the-news/.
The photograph is printed by hand according to the so-called palladiotype technique. This extremely delicate technique mastered by only a few artists worldwide assures an excellent durability of many centuries as the black and white tones are created with the noble metal palladium. As the chemicals are measured, mixed and applied manually, every print is different and hence unique.
