About Artist:
In late 2016 I started sculpting full time. Prior to that, I designed the EMA sleep apnea oral appliances (4 patents), and owned a small Orthodontic lab. I did create a few sculptures along the way, and have a bronze permanently placed in a park in downtown Port Townsend, WA. At Trinity University, San Antonio, TX, I studied sculpting under the British sculptor Phil Evett.
About Artwork:
I have sought to create this piece over and over as it signifies the embrace of the feminine. I was raised in the misogynistic culture of a small football town in Texas. I have been compelled to tap the feminine via sculpting in some deep seeded hope to know this true inner self. This sculpture allows the feeling feminine to flow through me, and helps me heal the inversion of my childhood. Others have related to it, since I did the original in 1991. It has evoked feelings of maternal love, or lack of.

In 2016-2017, I carved several similar versions of this sculpture. It is a theme that goes back to a piece I did in the early 90's. This one is from a piece of Old Growth Cedar, native to the Pacific Northwest. The finish is satin carnuba wax over multiple coats of boat building epoxy. This was done to provide a smooth durable surface.
